Highland Park is named for its higher elevation compared to the surrounding area and because 20% of its developed land is reserved for park space. The town is only 2.26 square miles with approximately 8,900 residents. Highland Park residents enjoy a per capita income of $97,008. The town is also Texas’ second best educated city, after its neighbor University Park, with 74.4% of adult residents having a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Almost all of Highland Park is served by the Highland Park Independent School District. A small portion of Highland Park students attend schools located in Dallas ISD.

The Big Pecan Tree – A true treasure n Highland Park is the grand old pecan tree on Armstrong Parkway at Preston Road. This mammoth tree is approximately 75 feet wide by 75 feet tall and is over 140 years old. The tree has been adorned with lights every holiday season since then, except during World War II and during the 1973 energy crisis. The lighting of the tree is believed to be the oldest Christmas tradition in Dallas County.
